Information
The Institute for Music Research came into being as
one of the UTSA Strategic Initiatives approved for
1991-92. It was established to promote research in the
areas of music psychology and music technology. Current
activities are divided into six categories: Online
Services, Conferences, Research, Publications,
Presentations, and a Ph.D. proposal.
- Conferences. The IMR hosts
national and international conferences.
- Research. A wide
assortment of research projects in music
psychology and music technology have been
completed or are underway at the IMR. A
particular strength is the integration of music
psychology and technology.
- Publications. Through
the IMR Press, the Institute publishes books,
conference proceedings, monographs, multimedia
software, and audio recordings.
- Online Services. The
IMR provides a variety of on-line computer
services, including CAIRSS, a bibliographic
database of more than 16,000 music research
articles, and MRIS (Music Research Information
Services).
- Presentations. IMR faculty members publish
in a variety of formats and make presentations in
local, state, national, and international forums.
- Ph.D. proposal. A Ph.D. in
Music with a major in music psychology is being
readied for campus and state approval.
