The Institute for Music Research began in 1991-92 as one of the UTSA Strategic Initiatives. It was established to promote research in the areas of music psychology, music learning, and music technology. Since its inception, the IMR has produced publications (books, multimedia CD-ROMs, conference proceedings, and audio CDs), hosted conferences, created an online research database (CAIRSS), and supported the research of various faculty members. Members of the IMR have published in leading music and psychology journals and have made presentations at regional, national, and international conferences. IMR News
As of June 1, 2005, all IMR press publications will be distributed directly through the IMR (rather than through MMB Music). This includes the Handbook of Music Psychology (and accompanying multimedia CD-ROMs) and A Scientific Model of Music in Therapy and Medicine.
